Torna dal 17 al 22 novembre 2018 alla Casa del Cinema di Roma, al Cinema Farnese e presso il Centro Ebraico Italiano il Pitigliani – a entrata gratuitafino a esaurimento posti – il Pitigliani Kolno’a Festival – Ebraismo e Israele nel Cinema, giunto alla tredicesima edizione, dedicato alla cinematografia israeliana e di argomento ebraico. Prodotto dal Centro Ebraico Italiano Il Pitigliani e diretto da Ariela Piattelli e Lirit Mash, il PKF2018 propone per la consueta sezione Sguardo sul nuovo cinema israeliano opere che hanno riscosso successo sia in Israele che all’estero e che rappresentano la varietà e il multiculturalismo che compone la società israeliana di oggi. Il Premio alla Carriera 2018 sarà consegnato al regista Avi Nesher, uno tra i più fecondi autori israeliani, di cui il festival proietterà il suo ultimo “The Other Story”, presentato in anteprima italiana, ma anche “Rage and Glory”, capolavoro del 1984, recentemente restaurato, che all’epoca della sua uscita fece molto discutere e “Turn Left at the End of the World”, ambientato negli anni Sessanta, il racconto di due famiglie di immigrati, una marocchina e l’altra indiana, che si ritrovano vicine in un minuscolo villaggio sperduto israeliano.

Nella sezione Sguardo sul nuovo cinema israeliano, tra le anteprime italiane del festival anche il lungometraggio Laces, di Jacob Goldwasser, basato sulla storia vera di un adulto-bambino con un leggero ritardo, un senso dell’umorismo unico, una risata contagiosa e un infinito ottimismo. L’attore Dov Glickman ha vinto, per questa interpretazione, il Premio Miglior attore non protagonista agli Ophir Awards israeliani. Sempre in anteprima, il documentario di Ran Tal,TheMuseum, che esplora l’anima israeliana attraverso le gallerie, i magazzini e i visitatori del Museo di Israele a Gerusalemme, la più importante istituzione culturale del Paese.

La sezione “Percorsi Ebraici” propone il documentario di Stephane Kaas “Etgar Keret: based on a true story”, già vincitore del Prix Italia 2018 e presentato all’ultima edizione del Festivaletteratura di Mantova, che racconta lo scrittore israeliano attraverso l’animazione delle sue storie, le rievocazioni dei suoi aneddoti, gli sguardi dietro le quinte e le interviste con familiari e amici. Altro documentario, “Einstein in the Holy Land”, di Noa Ben Hagai, che racconta la visita di Albert Einstein in Terra Santa nel febbraio del 1923 e compone un ritratto del Genio anche attraverso le sue impressioni sul nascente Stato Ebraico. Quindi, al Cinema Farnese, e in collaborazione con la Fondazione Museo della Shoah, il documentario italiano “La razzia. Roma, 16 ottobre 1943”, di Ruggero Gabbai – che sarà ospite del festival – realizzato con le testimonianze dei sopravvissuti al rastrellamento del Ghetto di Roma del 16 ottobre 1943, quando le forze naziste arrestarono oltre 1250 ebrei deportandoli nel campo di sterminio di Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Oltre a lungometraggi e documentari, al PKF tornano la serie televisive, con alcuni titoli, tra cui “When Heroes Fly” di Omri Givon, che ha vinto il premio Miglior Serie alla recente prima edizione di Canneseries e che sarà presentato dal produttore Eitan Mansuri. La storia segue quattro amici, veterani di guerra di un’unità delle forze speciali, riuniti per una missione finale: trovare Yaeli, l’ex amore di uno di loro e sorella di un altro. Altra serie tv, “Significant Other”, diretta da Ram Nehari, di cui verranno proiettati tre episodi della prima stagione, alla presenza dell’attrice protagonista Dana Modan, per una commedia drammatica sulla solitudine di due vicini di casa quarantenni, che si sono trovati a vivere porta a porta e si imbarcano a condividere una relazione esitante e piena di difficoltà.

Sulle serie tv il Festival ospiterà, lunedì 19 novembre alle ore 17:30 il panel “Da Cannes a Netflix. Il segreto del successo delle serie tv da Israele”, moderata dalle direttrici artistiche e alla presenza del regista e sceneggiatore Alessandro D’Alatri, del produttore Eitan Mansuri e della sceneggiatrice e attrice Dana Modan. Il panel sarà preceduto dalla proiezione di 3 episodi della prima stagione della serie tv “Significant Other” e seguito dalla proiezione del primo episodio della prima stagione di “When Heroes Fly”.

Spazio anche all’animazione, con un focus, a cura del regista e autore Hanan Kaminski, che propone un programma di corti composto da astri nascenti del cartoon israeliano.

Durante la kermesse si svolgerà anche la seconda edizione del Premio Emanuele (Lele) Luzzati, che sarà assegnato alla migliore opera considerata meritevole da una giuria composta da intellettuali e artisti di rilievo.

“C’è una continuità – sottolineano le direttrici artistiche – tra passato e presente nel programma di questa edizione del PKF. Dai documentari ai lungometraggi, dai cortometraggi alle serie TV, proponiamo film molto diversi tra loro ed emerge un quadro di un cinema più vitale che mai. Le opere israeliane compongono non solo un ritratto della cinematografia, ma anche della società del Paese, in costante cambiamento. Abbiamo voluto celebrare questa tredicesima edizione del PKF consegnando il Premio alla Carriera ad Avi Nesher, un regista, tra i più grandi d’Israele, che ha osservato i mutamenti della società israeliana, raccontandone, attraverso una straordinaria capacità di narrare, i suoi molteplici aspetti e anche le contraddizioni. Alcune delle sue opere hanno scatenato accesi dibattiti all’interno della società israeliana: il suo è un cinema dentro la Storia e le vicende umane”.

Direzione artistica PKF

In co-direzione già dalla prima edizione del Roma Kolno’a Festival (2006) e poi ininterrottamente al PKF, Ariela Piattelli è nata a Roma, dove ha studiato al DAMS di RomaTre e si è laureata in Storia e critica del cinema. Oggi è giornalista e collabora con « Il Corriere della Sera ». In passato ha collaborato per alcune testate, tra cui « Il Giornale », l’agenzia Apcom (al desk di New York) e la rivista di cultura ebraica « Shalom » di cui è ancora redattrice. Nel corso degli anni ha approfondito gli studi sul rapporto tra arti figurative ed ebraismo e, nei suoi numerosi viaggi in Israele è venuta a contatto con il cinema israeliano. Dal 1998 è consulente dell’Ambasciata d’Israele in Italia per iniziative culturali e festival cinematografici. E’ stata membro della giuria al Jerusalem Film Festival 2008 (per la sezione “Jewish Experience”) ed è curatrice insieme a Raffaella Spizzichino e Shulim Vogelmann, del Festival Internazionale di Letteratura Ebraica. Nell’ultimo anno ha prodotto alcuni eventi culturali tra Italia e Israele, tra cui il concerto di Idan Raichel Project a Roma (Piazza del Campidoglio, in collaborazione con Zètema) e l’anteprima italiana di “Seven Days” di Ronit e Shlomi Elkabetz, nell’ambito del Festival Internazionale del Film di Roma.

Lirit Mash

Lirit Mash è attrice e sceneggiatrice. Di origine argentina, è nata e cresciuta in Israele (Kibbutz Gazit). Ha imparato a suonare il violino e partecipato alla “Youth Symphonic Orchestra” dei membri dei kibbutzim. Vissuta per tre anni a Roma, tornata in Israele si è diplomata in Arte alla “Alon High School for the Arts”. Nell’esercito, ha lavorato come istruttore sportivo nel “College Interdisciplinary for Command and Staff”. Nel 1997 si è diplomata come attrice presso la “Beit Zvi High School for the Performing Arts”. Già durante il terzo anno degli studi, ha girato per una serie televisiva “Merhav Yarkon” (ambientato in una stazione di polizia). Dopo aver completato gli studi, ha svolto un ruolo di primo piano al teatro di Haifa, uno dei quali: “Ghetto” diretto da Joshua Sobol. Negli ultimi 20 anni Lirit ha recitato in teatro, cinema e televisione e tra i suoi ruoli più importanti: “Zinzana” (serie televisiva girata in una vera prigione nel 1999), “Saturdays and Holidays” (tre stagioni di una serie di successo sulle relazioni di coppia, 2000-2003). “This Night” (2006-2013) dell’Orna Porat Theatre, sulla comunità marocchina fuggita in Israele negli anni ’50. “Yellow Peppers” serie venduta alla BBC (2013), “Milk and Honey” venduta a Channel 4 (2015) e molti spot fra i quali per l’IKEA, la Tnuva e la campagna “Violence Against Women”. Attualmente Lirit è protagonista in un commedia originale: “Daddy’s Fathers” insieme all’attore veterano israeliano Uri Gavriel. Ha insegnato “Dramma e interpretazione e preparato attori per audizioni. Nell’ultimo anno, Lirit ha scritto il suo primo copione per una co-produzione israelo-argentina e un libro ispirato alla sua infanzia in Kibbutz.

Born in Israel and grew up in a kibbutz. At the age of 10, she moved with her family to Rome as part of her father work, “Hashomer Hatzair”, (3 years), and for the first time exposed to Italian language, art and fine food.

Studied violin for 8 years and did her matriculation in arts.

Alessandro D’Alatri

Nasce a Roma nel 1955. Inizia la sua attività nello spettacolo all’età di otto anni recitando in teatro, cinema e televisione con Visconti, Strehler, De Sica e altri prestigiosi autori. Il suo impegno dietro la macchina da presa comincia negli anni settanta. Nel 1991 esordisce alla regia conAmericano Rossocon cui vince il David di Donatello e il Ciak d’oro per il miglior esordio cinematografico dell’anno. Autore e regista di numerosi film, tra cuiSenza Pelle, Casomai, CommediasexieThe startup, ha scritto e diretto molti lavori per il teatro e la tv; attualmente è in onda la seconda stagione della serie televisiva, girata a NapoliI bastardi di Pizzofalcone.

Born in Rome in 1955. He starts being involved in the film and theatre industry at the age of 8 years, as a child actor with Luchino Visconti, Giorgio Strehler, Vittorio De Sica and other prestigious authors. In 1991, he made his debut as feature film director with Americano Rosso, winning the David di Donatello and the Golden Take (Ciak d’oro) for best debut. D’Alatri in author and director of numerous films among them Senza Pelle, Casomai, Commediasexi and The startup and he wrote and directed many works for stage and TV. Actually he is on air the second season of the successful tv serie I bastardi di Pizzofacone shot in Naples from the novels of Maurizio De Giovanni.

Ruggero Gabbai

Ruggero Gabbai inizia a fotografare già da ragazzo. Si laurea al Rochester Institute of Technology (Kodak) in fotografia con un “minor” in filosofia; nel 1993 si laurea con un Master in regia cinematografica alla Columbia University di New York. La sua tesi è il suo primo documentario;The King of Crown Heights, trasmesso in prime time dalla PBS in America e distribuito in tutto il mondo.

Nel 1995 torna in Italia e crea la casa di produzione Forma International. Nel 1997 firma la regia del documentario sulla Shoah italiana,Memoria, selezionato al Festival di Berlino e in onda su Rai due in prima serata. Gabbai ha diretto più di 30 documentari: tra i più recentiIo ricordo, sulla memoria delle vittime di mafia in Sicilia, e ilIl viaggio più lungo, selezionato al Festival di Gerusalemme e presentato in prima mondiale a New York. Nel 2015 ha realizzato il filmStarting Over Again, esposto al Museo di Gerusalemme e presentato a Londra, Parigi e New York. Il suo film documentarioCityZEN,sul quartiere popolare ZEN di Palermo, dopo essere tato selezionato al Festival del Cinema di Taormina è stato trasmesso nel 2018 da Sky Atalntic. Il filmLibia, l’ultimo esodoè stato acquistato da Rai Cinema e mandato in onda da Rai Uno. Ha appena terminato la regia del filmBeeing Missoniper sky Arte e il documentarioLa Razzia, Roma 16 ottobre 1943selezionato alla Festa del cinema di Roma e proposto al PKF.

Ruggero Gabbai began taking photographs at the age of teenager. He graduated in Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology (Kodak); in 1993, his graduate thesis in Film Direction at Columbia University would become his first documentary: The King of Crown Heights was distributed around the world and broadcast in the United States by PBS, in prime time. In 1995 he returned to Italy and in 1997 directed Memoria (Memory) about the Italian Holocaust, selected for the Berlin Film Festival. Gabbai has directed more than 30 documentaries, including Io ricordo (2008), about the memories of mafia victims in Sicily, and Il viaggio più lungo (The Longest Journey, 2013) which was selected for the Jerusalem Festival and had its world premiere in New York. In 2015, he made Starting Over Again about the Egyptian Jewish community and in 2016 he concluded several years of work on the documentary CityZEN, about a working class neighbourhood in Palermo. Libia, l’ultimo esodo, bought by Rai Cinema and broadcasted in Rai Uno. He has just finished directing the film Beeing Missoni for sky Arte and the documentary La Razzia, Roma 16 Ottobre 1943, selected at the Rome Film Festival and screened at the PKF.

Albert Hanan Kaminski

Nato a Bruxelles nel 1950, si diploma alla Bezalel Academy of Art and Design di Gerusalemme, dove successivamente fonderà il Dipartimento di Animazione che attualmente ancora dirige. Considerato il grande maestro dell’animazione israeliana, tra le sue celebri opere il lungometraggioThe Real Shlemieltratto da un racconto dello scrittore ebreo Premio Nobel I. B. Singer, la serie TVPettson and Findus, eThe Legend of King Solomon, presentato in anteprima italiana al PKF2017. A Kaminski il PKF ha conferito nel 2017 il premio alla carriera e, nel 2018, presenta una selezioni di Animazioni da Israele.

Born in Brussels in 1950, Albert Hanan Kaminski gradueted from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, where he later founded and directed the Animation Department. He is considered the great master of Israeli animation, between its most important title his first feature length film, The Real Schlemiel, based on a story by the Nobel Prize winning Jewish writer Isaac Bashevis Singer. He has directed TV series including Pettson and Findus and on the occasion of the Italian premiere (PKF2017) of his latest film, The Legend of King Solomon, the Festival was recognising Kaminski with its Lifetime Achievement Award.

Eitan Mansuri

Eitan Mansuri è un produttore israeliano. Nel 2013 ha fondato la Sapiro Films, una delle case di produzione di maggior successo in Israele, anche nel campo della coproduzione con l’Europa. Nel 2017 la Sapiro Films ha prodottoFoxtrotdi Samuel Maoz, che ha vinto il Leone d’Argento al Festival di Venezia ed è stato il candidato israeliano agli Oscar. Eitan Mansuri presenta al PKF2018When Heroes Fly, la prima serie televisiva prodotta dalla Sapiro Films, che ha vinto il primo premio dedicato alle serie tv al Festival di Cannes.

Sapiro is one of the fastest growing production companies in Israel, developing, producing and co-producing films in Israel and Europe.
In 2017 he produced “Foxtrot” a film by Samuel Maoz. The film won the Silver Lion at Venice International Film Festival, presented in Telluride, TIFF, Sundance and many more. It has won eight categories at the Israeli Academy Awards (Ophir ) and was the Israeli entry for the Oscars. Along the years Eitan produced numerous award-winning, critically acclaimed and commercially successful films. The first TV series Eitan produced When Heroes Fly was presented at Cannes series first edition (2018) and won the first prize (2018).

Dana Modan

Regista, sceneggiatrice, attrice, produttrice e conduttrice TV, Dana Modan ha vinto il premio dell’Accademia israeliana per la sceneggiatura e l’interpretazione nella serie TVAnandae per la serie. Attualmente sta lavorando al suo primo lungometraggio titolatoZadushkymentre al PKF2018 presenta la serie TVSignificant Otherda lei scritta ed interpretata.

Director, screenwriter, actress, producer and TV host, Dana Modan won the Israeli Film and TV Academy prize for screenplay and acting in the TV series Ananda and for Love Hurts. Her debuct film as a Director – Zadushky – is in pre-production. At the PKF 2018 she presents the TV serie Significant Other written and played by her.

Avi Nesher

Produttore, regista, sceneggiatore e attore, Avi Nesher nasce in Israele, a Ramat Gan, nel 1953. Considerato in tutto il mondo uno dei più importanti cineasti israeliani, i suoi film hanno giocato un ruolo fondamentale nel portare il cinema israeliano alla ribalta internazionale. Molte tra le sue opere hanno vinto numerosi premi internazionali e all’Accademia israeliana. Tra i suoi lungometraggi,Turn Left at the End of the World, film nominato per sette premi dell’Accademia Israeliana e campione d’incassi al botteghino; il controversoThe Troupeche è diventato “cult movie” ed è stato recentemente votato dall’Associazione Israeliana dei Critici Cinematografici fra i dieci migliori lungometraggi israeliani di tutti i tempi. Rage and Glory– presentato in versione restaurata al PKF2018 – che all’epoca della sua uscita scatenò un acceso dibattito. Il regista presenta in anteprima italiana, al PKF2018 il suo ultimoThe Other Story, film acclamato dal pubblico internazionale e israeliano, scritto a quattro mani con Noam Shpancer, scrittore e psicologo di fama mondiale. Il film è tratto da una storia realmente accaduta.

Producer, director, screenwriter and actor, Avi Nesher was born in Israel, in Ramat Gan, in 1953. Considered one of the most important Israeli filmmakers in the world, his films played a fundamental role in bringing Israeli cinema to international prominence. Many of his works have won numerous international awards and the Israeli Academy. Among his acclaimed films, Turn Left at the End of the World, which was nominated for seven Israeli Academy awards and was the biggest Israeli box office of the decade. The controversial The Troupe has become a cult classic and was recently voted by The Israeli Film Critics Association as one of the Ten Best Israeli Feature Films of all time. Rage & Glory, – presented in a restored version at PKF2018 – at the time of its release, sparked heated debate. The director presents at PKF2018, the Italian premiere of hislatestThe Other Story, a film acclaimed by the international and Israeli public, written with Noam Shpancer, a writer and psychologist of world renown. The film is based on a really happened story.

Federico Savina

Federico Savina, presidente onorario del Festival del Cinema Città di Spello e dei borghi umbri ” Le Professioni del cinema”, è un noto sound designer specializzato in Industrial and Television Electronics, docente del Centro sperimentale di cinematografia
Dopo aver creato i primi strumenti musicali elettronici e generatori per il compositore di “Nuova Consonanza Group”, è entrato nel settore della musica per il movimento diimaginge ha lavorato come mixer di musica, re-registrazione sonoro e assistente tecnico a Roma, Parigi, Londra e Praga, raccogliere un’ampia esperienza internazionale che lo ha portato a progettare il nuovo Dipartimento di suono per Cinecittà Studios a Roma, diverso dal rithme-CX Sound Library di sistema per CAM Film Music Publisher.
Savina ha collaborato con molti registi di fama internazionale come Fellini, Zeffirelli, Antonioni, Visconti, Argento e musicisti come Morricone, Rota, Goldsmith, Berstein e Jarre.
Ha lavorato come Consulente Dolby Sound e successivamente ha insegnato Sound design al Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia di Roma. Al PKF2018 presenta il cortometraggioMiriam

Federico Savina, honorary president of the Film Festival Città di Spello and the Umbrian villages “Le Professioni del cinema”, is a well-known sound designer specializing in Industrial and Television Electronics, professor of the Experimental Center of Cinematography

After creating the first electronic musical instruments and generators for the composer of “Nuova Consonanza Group”, he entered the music industry for the imaging movement and worked as a music mixer, sound re-recording and technical assistant in Rome, Paris, London and Prague, gather a wide international experience that led him to design the new Sound Department for Cinecittà Studios in Rome, different from the rithme-CX Sound Library system for CAM Film Music Publisher.

Savina has collaborated with many internationally renowned directors such as Fellini, Zeffirelli, Antonioni, Visconti, Argento and musicians such as Morricone, Rota, Goldsmith, Berstein, Jarre.

He worked as a Dolby Sound Consultant and later taught Sound Design in Rome at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. At the PKF2018 presents the short film Miriam

Ludovico Tesoro-Tess - PKF2018

Ludovico Tesoro – Tess

Ludovico Emanuele Tesoro-Tess nasce a Milano nel 1996. Dopo aver concluso il liceo scientifico inizia a studiare filosofia all’università statale di Milano. Ludovico scopre la passione per la fotografia e il video-making fin da giovanissimo, una passione che lo porterà a collaborare con una nota casa di produzione milanese specializzata in documentari: Forma International.
Questa collaborazione lo condurrà a migliorare le sue abilità fornendogli una conoscenza a 360° sul mondo del cinema.

Ludovico Emanuele Tesoro-Tess, born in Milan, Italy in 1996. After completing his scientific studies he started studying philosophy at Milan University. He discovered his passion for photography and video-making from a very young age, a passion which led him to collaborate with Forma International, a highly regarded cinema and film production company specialized in documentaries.
During this collaboration he improved his film-making abilities: from planning stages of the production, to working as Camera Operator.

Across the line – Me’ever la kav

Hananel, un giovane ebreo religioso, sta correndo a casa prima che entri lo Shabbat. Un incontro inaspettato con Mundir, un autostoppista palestinese porta Hananel ad una serie di avventure rocambolesche che alla fine gli danno una lezione sulla comunicazione, sull’amicizia e l’amore.

“Da regista israeliano ho sempre voluto stare fuori dalla politica. – spiega il regista – Non ho mai voluto usare il conflitto come strumento per la mia arte ma visto che la vita ha senso dell’umorismo, mi sono innamorato di una storia che si svolge nel bel mezzo del conflitto”.

Directors Statement:

As an Israeli Director, I have always wanted to stay away from politics. I didn’t want to use the conflict as a tool for my art. But, as life has its own sense of humor, I fell in love with a story that takes place right in the middle of the conflict.

His mother’s sudden death forces Gadi to move temporarily to the house of his biological father, from whom he is been estranged most of his life.

Reuven, Gadi’s father, absorbed in his own problems, has always been put off by interactions with his unusual son.

But the hidden love between father and son grows steadily stronger as they get to know each other again.

Gadi’s endless optimism will console them all when the two of them have to cope with the tribulations that await them.

Thomas, a young German baker, is having an affair with Oren, an Israeli married man who has frequent business visits in Berlin. When Oren dies in a car crash in Israel, Thomas travels to Jerusalem seeking for answers regarding his death. Under a fabricated identity, Thomas infiltrates into the life of Anat, his lover’s newly widowed wife, who owns a small Café in downtown Jerusalem. Thomas starts to work for her and create German cakes and cookies that bring life into her Café. Thomas finds himself involved in Anat’s life in a way far beyond his anticipation, and to protect the truth he will stretch his lie to a point of no return.

Giunta rapidamente al successo, la panetteria di famiglia a Giaffa presto diventa una vera e propria istituzione, dove arrivano clienti da tutto il Paese. Così “Sammy Bourekas & Sons” diventa la prima catena di negozi monomarca di Israele, guidata dalla giovane generazione, composta dai figli di Sammy e dal genero. I negozi spuntano come funghi in tutta Israele, e il business è accompagnato dalla “Dolce vita”, fatta di “social life” con politici, giocatori di calcio, attori e modelle. Ad un certo punto però l’incantesimo si rompe, e prendono il sopravvento le rivalità interne alla famiglia…

The film follows the rise and fall of the Alkolombris- a proud family of Bulgarian bakers that immigrated to the newborn state of Israel.

Their success was rapid, and the family bakery in Jaffa soon became a well-known establishment, drawing crowds from all over the country. This led to the first franchised food chain in Israel- “Sammy Bourekas & Sons”. Run by the younger generation, Sammy’s two sons and son-in-law, bakeries selling Bourekas popped up all over Israel.

Money started to flow, accompanied by an extravagant lifestyle and celeb-status parties with Israeli high-society: politicians, soccer players, actors and models. They even opened an automated Bourekas factory. But as the rival siblings began to clash, jealously, honor and greed began to tear down the family empire.

The Museum è un documentario che esplora l’anima israeliana, attraverso le gallerie, i magazzini ed i visitatori del Museo di Israele a Gerusalemme, la più importante istituzione culturale del Paese.

E’ un “documentario puzzle”, contemporaneamente intrigante e divertente, che tenta di definire l’essenza unica del museo attraverso l’eccezionale contesto geografico, storico e politico sul quale poggia. Con un tagliente sguardo ironico, il film segue i visitatori, osserva gli osservatori, ascolta i relatori e scende nei magazzini, entra nei laboratori e nelle sale conferenze. Il direttore del museo americano, la guardia della sicurezza fischiettante, il sovrintendente di Gerusalemme, l’ispettore ultraortodosso alla “kasherut”, la guida turistica palestinese ed il turista cieco sono solo alcuni dei personaggi che fanno parte della serie di attività del museo. Per circa 18 mesi il regista Ran Tal, già ospite del PKF, ha seguito con la sua troupe la quotidianità del museo, componendo un mosaico di bellezza mozza fiato. Candidato Miglior Documentario all’Accademia israeliana per il cinema e la televisione 2018, è stato presentato in molti festival del mondo.

The Museum is a film that seeks to explore the Israeli soul through the galleries, storerooms and visitors of the Israel Museum, Israel’s most important cultural institution.

This is a documentary puzzle, simultaneously intriguing and amusing, which attempts to define the unique essence of the museum within the exceptional geographical, historical and political context in which it functions.

With a trenchant, ironic eye the film follows the visitors, observes the observers, listen to the speakers and descend to the storerooms, labs and conference rooms. The America museum director, the singing security guard, the Jerusalem curator, the Haredi kashrut inspector, the Palestinian guide and the blind visitor are just a few characters that take part in a chain of activities which add up to the museum.

For about 18 months Director Ran Tal collected footage of the museum’s daily routine, assembling it into a cinematic collage-observant, sensitive and breathtakingly beautiful.

Anat Abadi, una brillante ragazza che frequentava la scatenata vita mondana di Tel Aviv, ha ritrovato Dio. Rinuncia alla promiscuità, al maiale, allo smartphone, intraprende una vita di solenne devozione, va a vivere a Gerusalemme, si iscrive ad una scuola religiosa ultra ortodossa e si fidanza con un carismatico musicista che ha anche lui di recente riscoperto la fede.

Il nonno di Anat – Shlomo – un diffidente psicologo vedovo e irriducibile ateo – rimane scioccato dall’improvvisa decisione della nipote. Shlomo cerca in tutti i modi di fermare il cammino intrapreso da Anat e dal quale, a breve, la ragazza non potrà più tirarsi indietro. Alla fine Shlomo chiede aiuto ai genitori divorziati della nipote: Yonatan, che ha lasciato Israele anni fa alla ricerca di fama e fortuna negli Stati Uniti, ma che si è poi ritrovato travolto dagli scandali, e Tali, una donna d’affari di successo di Tel Aviv con i propri problemi da risolvere. I tre si alleano per trovare il modo di sabotare l’imminente matrimonio di Anat.

Allo stesso tempo, nel suo studio Shlomo ha in terapia una giovane coppia che sta divorziando, Sari e Rami Alter, i quali sono coinvolti in un’esplosiva ed amara disputa per l’affidamento del loro geniale figlio Izy. Durante la terapia, Shlomo inizia a scoprire fatti strani e preoccupanti sui due coniugi, che lo fanno preoccupare per l’incolumità del bambino.

In poco tempo, le strade di queste famiglie si incontrano e la situazione che ne viene fuori diventerà ricca di suspense, commozione ed umorismo…

Anat Abadi, a bright and intense young woman long part of Tel Aviv wild club scene, has found God.

Renouncing promiscuity, pork and smartphones for a life of solemn devotion, she moves to Jerusalem, enrolls in an ultraorthodox seminary, and gets engaged to a charismatic musician who’s also recently found religion.

Anat’s grandfather Shlomo — a wary widowed psychologist and avowed old-school atheist—is shocked by his granddaughter’s sudden embrace of religious zealotry. Shlomo is desperate to force Anat off her new path, from which there will soon be no turning back. To that end, he enlists the help of her divorced parents, Yonatan, who’s left Israel years ago to pursue fame and fortune in the USA only to find himself embroiled in scandal and Tali, a successful business woman in Tel Aviv with her own scores to settle. Together they team up in plot to thwart Anat’s upcoming wedding.

Meanwhile at his clinic, Shlomo is counseling a young divorcing couple, Sari and Rami Alter, who are embroiled in an explosive and bitter custody battle over their young gifted boy, Izy. In the course of treatment, Shlomo begins to unearth bizarre and troubling information about the two parents, raising concerns about the child’s safety.

Before long the paths of both these troubled families will tangle in most unexpected ways: as the characters’ warring personal convictions and intimate anxieties in the clash between secular and religious worldviews also come to embody the struggle for identity animating present-day Israel.

The ensuing roller coaster ride, by turns suspenseful, poignant, and humorous, will test the strength of their resolve while offering them a last chance at a personal and family reckoning and—could it be? —a modicum of redemption.

Il linguaggio cinematografico di Nesher ricrea una forma di mitologia e sionista, attraverso il racconto della storia di “Eddy il Macellaio”, un anarchico della banda Stern, che viene mandato a Gerusalemme per organizzare l’uccisione di un alto ufficiale britannico. L’arrivo di Eddy crea molta tensione all’interno di una situazione già tesa, e la porta quasi al collasso, mentre le unità britanniche incalzano. Ad oltre trent’anni dall’originale uscita in sala, Rage and Glory torna sul grande schermo, mostrando come all’epoca della sua uscita fosse già in anticipo del suo tempo sia a livello cinematografico che a quello tematico.

Nesher’s stunningly unique film language shapes anew the Zionist mythology, as it tells the story of Eddy the Butcher, an avowed anarchist and Stern Gang hitman who is sent to Jerusalem to plot the assassination of a senior British officer. Eddy’s arrival creates much tension within the already troubled cell and almost brings about its collapse, as the British counter terrorist operatives are closing in.

More than three decades after its original release, it is now clear that Rage and Glorywas way ahead of its time, both cinematically and thematically.

Nel febbraio del 1923 quando Albert Einstein arrivò in Palestina ci vivevano 85.000 ebrei e a giudicare dai titoli dei giornali del tempo, sembra che molti di loro fossero accorsi ad accogliere esultanti l’ebreo più famoso di quella generazione. In February 1923 when Albert Einstein arrived in Palestine there were 85.000 Jews living there- and judging from newspaper headlines of the time, it seemed that each and every one of them came to greet and cheer the most famous Jew of his generation.

For the next 12 days, Einstein would note his impressions of the emerging Jewish State in a personal travel log he was writing, a journal not meant to be published. Using this never before seen travel log, the film traces the visit to the Holy Land and paints a portrait of the Jewish genius.

stories and his hilarious live performances.

When two young Dutch filmmakers set out to make a film about Etgar Keret’s stories, they

knew they had to make use of a lot of different techniques to truly show how his mind works.

Through animations of his stories, re-enactments of his anecdotes, peeks behind the scenes

and interviews with family and friends (Jonathan Safran Foer and Ira Glass among them) in Tel

Aviv and New York, they try to find out why Keret’s constant storytelling has kept him alive.

Il 16 ottobre 1943 le forze naziste arrestano nella città di Roma oltre 1250 ebrei. Le vittime devono preparare le valigie e abbandonare le loro case in pochi minuti. Il 18 ottobre sono condotte alla stazione Tiburtina, ammassate in ventotto carri bestiame e deportate nel campo di sterminio di Auschwitz-Birkenau. Solo sedici torneranno. A settantacinque anni dalla razzia del 16 ottobre ‘43, il film documentario ripercorre una delle più tragiche pagine della storia d’Italia attraverso le voci di chi l’ha vissuta. Il film è realizzato con le testimonianze dei sopravvissuti. Un’opera corale, in cui le parole di chi è sopravvissuto al campo di sterminio si uniscono a quelle di chi è riuscito a scampare alla deportazione. Il ritmo della narrazione è scandito dai racconti diretti, accompagnati da vedute di Roma e dei luoghi in cui la razzia ebbe luogo, che ci aiutano a ripercorrere quei tragici momenti.

On October 16^th 1943 the Nazi forces arrest more than 1250 Jews in Rome. The victims must prepare suitcases and abandon their houses in few minutes. On October 18^th they are conducted to the Tiburtina railway station, amassed in twenty eight cattle cars and deported to the extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. Only sixteen will come back. Seventy five years after the raid of October 16^th, 1943, the documentary film traces one of the most tragic pages of Italian history through the voices of those who lived it. The film is made with the testimonies of survivors. A choral work in which the words of those who survived the extermination camp are united with those of who managed to escape deportation. The rythm of the narration is punctued by direct stories accompanied by views of Rome and the place where the raid took place, which help us to retrace those tragic moments.

When Indian cinema began 100 years ago it was taboo for Hindu and Islamic women to perform on screen, so Indian Jewish women took on female lead roles, which they dominated for decades. The film focuses on the lives of five of the great Jewish actors. Infused with music and dancing, the cheekily told documentary unabashedly oozes Bollywood as it uses film motifs to drive the narrative.

Shababnikim (titolo originale della serie) è in ebraico un modo di chiamare i giovani ultra religiosi che sono fuori dal tracciato, ma non completamente. Non ci sono eroi devoti o scene strappa cuore in The New Black. Ciò che troverete in questi episodi è tanto divertimento. Vincitrice di quattro premi all’Accademia israeliana nel 2017, la serie è stata campione di ascolti del canale Hot.

The show features a group of four Haredi students who study at a yeshiva in Jerusalem. One of them, Gedalya, is on the straight and narrow, while the other three prefer their Talmud study with a side of hanging out in the park, shopping at the mall and general goofing off. Shababnikim is a Hebrew slang word for a Haredi youth who is off the path – but not entirely. There are no tortured heroes or heartbreaking scenes in The new black, what you will find in the episode is fun, and a lot.

The series had a lot of success and it was the most watched series in Hot (Israeli Channel) in 2017. The series won four Academy Awards for 2017: best comedy series, the best screenplay, and the best comic actor(Ori Leizerovitz)
